German Ladies Choir of Calgary

The German Ladies Choir of Calgary was founded in 1974 by Anne Stollbert, and celebrated its 40th anniversary in 2014. The singers, still under the direction of Anne Stollbert, meet every Monday evening for the enjoyment of maintaining our German heritage though Song. As members of the “Prärie Sängerbund”, the choir has participated in every Prairie Song Festival since our inception. The choir has performed in numerous concerts, cultural events, churches, retirement residences and nursing homes. Tours have taken us through Western Canada, the USA and Europe. In July 2008, the choir competed at the “World Choir Games” in Graz, Austria, where we earned Silver and Bronze Diplomas. We have produced three well-received CDs, with the Christmas CD also featuring the Singgemeinschaft and the German Male Chorus. Another highlight occurred in 2012, when the choir traveled to Germany, joined choirs from the area of Solingen and Friedrichshafen for combined concerts and were given permission to sing in the impressive “Kölner Dom” (Cathedral of Cologne). On Dec. 2013, the choir celebrated 25 years of annual Advent concerts and in May 2014, the Ladies Choir was honored to participate at the 150th Anniversary of the Hamilton Germania Choirs’ Song Festival. it has been a pleasure to have participated in this year’s Sängerfest in Edmonton and now the mini tour of places around and near Edmonton.

Die Singgemeinschaft Calgary

Die Singgemeinschaft is a mixed choir and was founded in 1968. It is presently represented by 38 dedicated singers under the direction of Anne Stollbert and piano accompanist Jeannie Park.

As we did from the very beginning we sing mainly German folksongs and melodies and are incorporating our German Gemütlichkeit and humour into our performances. However, we also have a variety of English songs in our repertoire.  We sing and entertain at various cultural events, senior residences, host 2 concerts a year and enjoy performing throughout a very busy Christmas season.

We practice every Tuesday September to June at 7:30 – 9:00 pm at the German Club.  Come to one of our practices and see what it’s all about!

Or come to one of our events (our 50th Anniversary concert is coming up on November 3, 2018) or invite us to yours – we love to sing and entertain!
